When severe storms unexpectedly swept through Blake's Lavender Festival in Armada, Michigan, they left behind far more than broken tents and scattered displays.
They left hundreds of small business owners wondering what came next.
More than 200 Michigan artisans, makers, crafters, and vendors experienced devastating losses as powerful winds ripped through vendor booths, damaged handcrafted inventory, destroyed displays, and ended what should have been a weekend celebrating creativity, community, and locally made products.
For many visitors, it was a shocking scene.
For the artisans whose livelihoods were on display, it was heartbreaking.
At Fundraiser Blankets®, we immediately recognized what those images represented because we've lived the vendor life ourselves. We've spent years exhibiting at festivals, conferences, community events, and trade shows across the country. We know the countless hours that happen long before a customer ever walks into a booth.
Every handcrafted candle, piece of jewelry, painting, sign, food item, soap, textile, or gift represents hours, days, and often months of work. Inventory doesn't magically appear. It is designed, tested, perfected, packaged, loaded into trailers, transported across the state, unpacked, and carefully displayed.
Then, in a matter of minutes, Mother Nature changed everything.

Natural disasters remind us that communities are strongest when neighbors step in to help neighbors.
As a Michigan-based, women-owned, teacher-owned, and service-disabled veteran-owned company, we knew we couldn't replace thousands of dollars in damaged inventory.
We couldn't rebuild vendor booths.
We couldn't recover lost sales.
But we could make someone smile.
Instead of asking what we couldn't do, we asked ourselves what we could do.
Our answer was simple.
We would donate something that has always represented warmth, encouragement, and comfort.
We offered to create 25 completely custom blankets for artisans impacted by the Blake's Lavender Festival storms.
Each artisan simply needed to send us their business logo.
From there, our design team got to work creating a personalized blanket designed specifically for their business.

When we published our Facebook post offering free custom blankets to impacted vendors, we honestly had no idea how many people would respond.
Within hours, members of the community began sharing the post.

Instead of watching the tragedy unfold, people started looking for ways to help.
That is what community looks like.
